1. Purchase a book to study from. Todd Lammle is the best selling author of Cisco Press, I'd highly recommend you to purchase his

2. Set a schedule to study the book. Learn and understand what you are reading. Take the time you need to understand each and every concept, as this is really essential in preparing you for the exam and helping you out in the industry. Getting things right the first time isn't always good, otherwise you wouldn't be able to troubleshoot and learn.

3. Do lab exercises, and quizzes in the book. Make your own notes, and make sure you study all topics thoroughly. Especially the ones that you are weak in.

4. Remember to keep reviewing your materials so that you don't forget them. Study, study, and study!

Overview of the CCENT Exam

This post will describe what you need to know for the CCENT Exam.

Firstly, you need to know the number 640-822 ICND 1, this is the exam number. ICND 1 stands for Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1. You can also choose to take the ICND 2 exam later to get your CCNA.

For the CCENT Exam, you have a time limit of 90 minutes and you'll receive 50-60 random questions. Types of questions on the exam include multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple answers, drag and drop, and fill in the blank and simulations.

At the beginning of your exam there is a tutorial which you're allowed to take. You won't be timed for the tutorial, but you have 15 minutes to view it. You should see the tutorial just to familiarize yourself with the test formats and get in the mood of taking the test.

Topics included in the CCENT exam include:

Topics on networking fundamentals; connecting to a WAN; basic security and wireless concepts; routing and switching fundamentals; the TCP/IP and OSI models; IP addressing; WAN technologies; operating and configuring IOS devices; configuring RIPv2, static and default routing; implementing NAT and DHCP; and configuring simple networks.

Hello, and welcome to Discover CCENT. The purpose of this blog is to help YOU get your CCENT certification from Cisco. I'm also pursuing this certification and currently am taking an online Cisco NetAcad course. This blog will frequently be updated with lessons as I take them. I hope you find it useful. I will also try and make interactive games/content to help you with your learning.

What is Cisco CCENT?

Defined by Cisco:

"The Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification validates the skills required for entry-level network support positions, the starting point for many successful careers in networking. Candidates should have the knowledge and skill to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. CCENT certification is the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections."
